Die chinesische Regierung schenkt dem Bundeskanzler der Bundesrepublik Deutschland, Helmut Schmidt, zwei Pandabären. Er übergibt sie dem West-Berliner Zoo. Die beiden Bären BaoBao und TjenTjen werden zum Maskottchen der West-Berliner.
